Summary for Kevin Craine the Leader
Kevin Craine the Leader

To me leadership is more than just telling your employees what to do and then monitoring their progress. Leadership to me is leading by example, and it is with everyone I interact with, not just my subordinates.

I am always striving to find the best solution for the problems that I am currently working on. When I believe that either I or another team member has found that solution, I lead by getting the solution implement in the most efficient manor possible. I do this while communicating on a regular basis with the rest of the team members. I also highlight team members who are accomplishing this as well. In this way I lead by getting everyone involved and keep them energized about the project, and their piece.

A couple of my resent projects:

  • Viewership Metrics Refactoring
  • Cable Application Suite

Viewership Metrics Refactoring

Refactoring can be challenging, especially when it is someone else's not so clean code. For this project I was not the lead developer, but I took it upon myself to implement a unit testing system for the team to use. When people started seeing how they could easily test and retest their code, they started working more efficiently, and completing their tasks quicker.

Cable Application Suite

We had created a number of stand-alone prototype applications that our marketing department started to sell to customers. Eventually the request came through that they wanted all these stand-alone applications to work together as a suite of applications. On this project I was the lead developer. After researching and designing the solution as best I could, other team members joined the development effort. I showed them the plan that I had come up with, and then opened it up to discussion for them to improve upon. After that I split up the work by allowing the team members to choose which piece they wanted to work on. Between opening the design, and allowing them to choose their piece, the team took great pride in what they were working on. The project ended with a very successful release.
